The Portuguese Championship title is still up for grabs and will be decided in the final round. Benfica and Sporting drew 1-1 this Saturday at Estádio da Luz, in what was considered the most decisive match of the classic this century.
Playing away from home, Sporting took the lead after just four minutes of play with Francisco Trincão. Benfica’s equalizer only came in the second half with Kerem Aktürkoğlu.
Sporting and Benfica, leaders and runners-up respectively, are tied in the standings, with 79 points. The match could have crowned one of the teams champions of the competition, but as everything was tied the decision will be made in the last round.
Sporting has the advantage due to the direct confrontation. In Portugal, the direct dispute between teams is the first tiebreaker criterion. Having won the first round game, 1-0, in Alvalade, Sporting has this advantage in the dispute for the trophy.
