Neymar earned €1.1 million for every touch of the ball in 2024
(Astronomical) calculations made by ‘Footmercato’. Brazilian star’s contract with Al Hilal is coming to an end and renewal is a question mark
In the summer of 2023, Neymar put an end to his time at PSG and, like many other big names in European football, accepted the truckload of money offered by the Saudi Arabian Fund, moving to Al Hilal with an astronomical salary. However, a serious knee injury suffered by the forward in a Brazil match against Uruguay , in a qualifying match for the 2026 World Cup, in October 2023, kept him out of the competition for many months, so in the calendar year of 2024, Neymar only played two games for Jorge Jesus’ team.
Against Al Ain and Esteghlal, in matches of the Asian Champions League, the number 10 was a substitute used by Jesus, playing a total of 42 minutes of play, in which he touched the ball 45 times. The French team at ‘Footmercato’ decided to do the math and, for each minute played in 2024, Neymar earned 2.4 million euros, which is to say that the bank account was filled with an additional 1.12 million euros each time the player trained at Santos touched the ball in these two games.
For these calculations, ‘Footmercato’ used the 101 million euros salary that Neymar earned last year, making him the third highest paid footballer in the world, behind Lionel Messi ( Inter Miami , €124 M) and Cristiano Ronaldo ( Al Nassr , €263 M).
