Jadon Sancho is set to reunite with Borussia Dortmund this summer, with reports confirming the winger has agreed to significantly reduce his salary to facilitate a free transfer back to the Bundesliga.

The 25-year-old’s troubled spell at Manchester United is officially coming to an end. With his contract expiring in June, Sancho has reportedly chosen Dortmund as his preferred destination over interests from Monaco and Cesc Fàbregas’ Como.

The Niko Kovac Project

The move is a high priority for Dortmund manager Niko Kovac, who views Sancho as the ideal replacement for Karim Adeyemi. With Adeyemi refusing to renew his contract and looking for a new challenge, Sancho’s return provides the “Black and Yellows” with a proven creative force who already knows the club’s DNA.

Currently on loan at Aston Villa, Sancho has struggled for minutes under Unai Emery. However, the prospect of returning to the Signal Iduna Park has revitalized the player, who was quick to accept Dortmund’s demand for a wage reduction to fit their current financial structure.

Sancho’s time in England has been a far cry from his glory days in Germany. His stats at Manchester United reflect a difficult period for the English international:

  • Appearances: 83 matches over four seasons.
  • Direct Goal Involvements: Only 12 goals and 6 assists.
  • Total Minutes: 5,001.

Despite the dip in form, Dortmund remains confident that “home soil” will help Sancho rediscover the world-class level that saw him become one of Europe’s most coveted talents before his move to Old Trafford.

A Battle for His Signature

While Sancho favors a return to Germany, the race isn’t over. Monaco is monitoring the situation as they look for high-profile reinforcements, and Como continues to lure Premier League stars to Serie A. However, with personal terms virtually agreed upon at Dortmund, the move seems destined to be completed once the July window opens.
