Bayern Munich Target Lyon’s Malick Fofana as Plan B for Luis Díaz

German giants keep eye on Belgian winger as Liverpool hold firm on Díaz price tag

With negotiations for Luis Díaz hitting a financial roadblock, Bayern Munich are now eyeing Lyon’s Malick Fofana as a potential alternative to reinforce their attack ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The German club has made Díaz their top priority this summer, but Liverpool’s €100 million asking price has become a sticking point. Bayern’s most recent offer stood at €90 million, with no agreement yet in sight.

Díaz Still the Priority, But Talks Stall

Díaz, who scored 17 goals and added 5 assists in 50 appearances last season, has made it clear he is open to a move. The Colombian international is also attracting interest from Barcelona, but Bayern remain hopeful they can win the race.

However, Liverpool are reportedly standing firm, unwilling to sell unless their valuation is fully met.

Fofana Emerges as Backup Option

In the event talks for Díaz collapse, Bayern Munich have identified Malick Fofana, 20, as a Plan B. The Belgian winger enjoyed a breakout season with Lyon, recording 11 goals and 5 assists in 41 matches across all competitions.

Fofana’s pace, technical ability, and tactical flexibility capable of playing both on the wing and as a central forward have caught the attention of Bayern’s technical staff.

Scouting Fofana’s Potential

While Fofana is far less experienced than Díaz, his youth and development upside present a compelling case for Bayern, who are looking to refresh their attack. The club is reportedly preparing a strategy in case talks with Liverpool continue to stall.
