Real Madrid decides to sign midfielder: Mac Allister, Rodri, Vitinha or Enzo Fernández

Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has promised head coach Xabi Alonso that the club will sign a world-class midfielder in 2026. The shortlist includes Alexis Mac Allister, Rodri, Vitinha, and Enzo Fernández, according to Defensa Central.
Florentino’s plan with Xabi Alonso
Behind the scenes, Pérez assured Alonso during a private meeting that midfield reinforcement is a priority for the club’s long-term project. However, the final decision may depend on Real Madrid’s success in the 2025/26 season.
Why Rodri is the favorite
Among the names, Manchester City’s Rodri is Pérez’s top choice. Born in Madrid and a lifelong Real fan, the Spaniard combines emotional ties with world-class ability. His contract with City runs until 2027, making negotiations complex and expensive.
Other candidates
Mac Allister (Liverpool), Enzo Fernández (Chelsea), and Vitinha (PSG) are also admired by Alonso, who believes all four players fit perfectly into his system. The coach has previously requested Mac Allister but was unable to secure the deal.
A costly operation
Whoever arrives will come at a high price. All four midfielders are valued at over €100 million, making this one of the most expensive signings in Real Madrid’s future plans.
The current squad
For now, Los Blancos rely on Tchouaméni, Camavinga, Valverde, Bellingham, Ceballos, Brahim Díaz, and Arda Güler. Even with such depth, Alonso believes a controlling midfielder in the mold of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric is essential for balance.
La Liga debut
Real Madrid kick off their 2025/26 La Liga campaign this Tuesday (19) against Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabéu. With Barcelona already starting strong after a 3-0 win over Mallorca, the pressure is on Xabi Alonso to deliver from day one.
