Real Madrid are gearing up for a crucial clash against Atlético de Madrid this Thursday (8) in the Spanish Super Cup semi-finals, and despite Vinícius Júnior’s 15-game goal drought, the Brazilian continues to receive strong backing from both Xabi Alonso and key teammates.
Vinícius Júnior Still Trusted Despite Scoring Struggles
Vinícius Júnior has scored just five goals in 25 appearances this season, failing to find the net in his last 15 matches. The numbers are well below the standards he set in previous campaigns, when he established himself as one of the world’s best players.
Even so, Real Madrid’s coaching staff and dressing room remain confident that the winger will soon rediscover his best form starting with the high-stakes derby against Atlético.
“There’s still a lot of the season left, and Vini will be important. We need him at his best, enjoying himself on the pitch,” said Xabi Alonso.
“When he does that, he destabilizes opponents. We have to find him — he’s fundamental for us.”
Bellingham Defends Vinícius’ Overall Contribution
Jude Bellingham also spoke publicly in defense of Vinícius Júnior, urging fans and analysts not to judge the winger solely by his goal tally.
According to the England international, Vinícius continues to impact matches through creativity, pace, and teamwork.
“Maybe there’s a mental block in front of goal, but I see an electric and creative player,” Bellingham said.
“Goals don’t tell the whole truth. He’s a very useful teammate, and we want him to be the best Vini again. We have to support him.”
Vinícius has still contributed seven assists this season, underlining his influence even during a difficult scoring spell.
Xabi Alonso Demands More Intensity Without the Ball
Beyond individual form, Xabi Alonso has highlighted a broader concern: defensive consistency. Real Madrid have conceded too many goals this season, and the coach is demanding greater collective effort, especially in pressing and defensive organization.
“Pressure from everyone is essential,” Alonso explained.
“I demand commitment in every training session and every game when we don’t have the ball. We need to be active, compact, and aggressive. That desire will make us more competitive.”
Focus on the Atlético Derby
As Real Madrid prepare for one of the most intense fixtures of the season, the spotlight remains on Vinícius Júnior. While goals have been scarce, the club’s leadership is confident that his quality will resurface and that a big-stage match could be the perfect moment for a response.
