Chelsea uses social media to taunt Tottenham after defeat in the Super Cup final

Chelsea wasted no time poking fun at Tottenham Hotspur following Spurs’ dramatic UEFA Super Cup defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in Udine. Tottenham led 2–0 with just five minutes left, only to see PSG mount a stunning comeback and win on penalties.

From Dominance to Disaster

Spurs looked in full control when Micky van de Ven opened the scoring before halftime and new captain Cristian Romero doubled the advantage three minutes into the second half. Under new boss Thomas Frank, Tottenham had restricted PSG Champions League winners just months ago to zero shots on target in the first half.

That dominance crumbled in the 85th minute when Lee Kang-in fired home from distance, sparking a late rally. Just minutes later, substitute Gonçalo Ramos equalised with a header, forcing a penalty shootout.

Penalty Drama

Tottenham initially took command in the shootout as Dominic Solanke and Rodrigo Bentancur scored, while PSG’s Vitinha missed. But costly errors from Van de Ven and Mathys Tel handed the French side four straight conversions and their first UEFA Super Cup title.

Chelsea’s Perfectly-Timed Jab

At 6:09 p.m., just moments after Nuno Mendes’ winning penalty, Chelsea’s official account posted:

“#OnThisDay, exactly one month ago, Chelsea beat PSG in the Club World Cup final!”

The reminder referenced the Blues’ 3–0 win over PSG in the United States last month, a feat their London rivals failed to replicate despite appearing to be cruising toward victory in Udine.

Chelsea’s post quickly went viral, turning Tottenham’s heartbreak into fresh banter fodder in London’s football rivalry.
