Barcelona will not sign Murillo despite Hansi Flick’s interest

FC Barcelona has decided not to pursue a transfer for Colombian defender Murillo, currently at Nottingham Forest, despite interest from coach Hansi Flick.

Defensive Gap After Martínez’s Departure

The Catalan club recently lost Iñigo Martínez to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nassr on a free transfer, leaving a significant void in central defense. Fans and media have speculated on potential replacements, and Murillo, 23, quickly became a favored option.

Flick reportedly values the left-footed center-back, but the board has opted against signing anyone this summer, citing challenges with La Liga’s 1:1 squad ratio rule and preferring to work with the current roster.

Araújo Set for More Opportunities

As a result, Ronald Araújo, one of Barça’s captains, is expected to see increased playing time. Araújo is aiming to bounce back after a challenging season that included errors contributing to Barcelona’s Champions League elimination by Inter Milan.

Murillo’s Status

Murillo, who has been developing at Nottingham Forest, is under contract until June 2029. According to Transfermarkt, his market value currently stands at €55 million (R$346.5 million). While Barcelona may still consider him in the future, no deal is expected this summer unless the terms are highly favorable.
