Where will Luka Modric play after his departure from Real Madrid after the 2025 Club World Cup?

After 13 unforgettable years at Real Madrid, legendary midfielder Luka Modrić has confirmed his next destination: AC Milan.
The 39-year-old Croatian, who made his final appearance for Madrid in their Club World Cup semi-final loss to PSG, will join the Italian giants in August 2025, as confirmed by Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri.
A New Chapter in Serie A
Allegri, back for a second stint at the Rossoneri, praised Modrić as “an extraordinary player” and emphasized how important his leadership and experience will be for Milan’s rebuilding project after a disappointing Serie A campaign.
“He’s a true champion on and off the pitch,” Allegri told Sky Italia. “Luka’s arrival brings vision, mentality, and hunger to a squad eager to compete again at the highest level.”
Modrić’s Incredible Legacy at Real Madrid
Modrić leaves Real Madrid with an astonishing record:
- 598 appearances
- 43 goals
- 95 assists
28 major trophies, including:
- 6 UEFA Champions League titles
- 4 LaLiga championships
- 6 Club World Cups
He also won the Ballon d’Or in 2018, breaking the Messi-Ronaldo duopoly after leading Croatia to the World Cup final that same year.

Why Modrić Chose Milan
Despite rumors linking him to clubs in Saudi Arabia, MLS, and even a coaching role at Madrid, Modrić was reportedly drawn to Milan’s tradition, Champions League ambitions, and Allegri’s project. He’ll wear the number 10 shirt vacated by Brahim Díaz, who recently transferred to Lyon.
