Barcelona Eyes Vlahovic as Lewandowski Successor

Former Flamengo target could reinforce Hansi Flick’s squad if freed from Juventus contract
Barcelona is closely monitoring the situation of Dusan Vlahovic, the Serbian striker currently under contract with Juventus. According to El Gol Digital, the Italian club is considering a mutual contract termination due to the player’s high salary demands a scenario that would open the door for Barcelona to make a move.
Why Vlahovic Interests Barcelona
Barcelona’s interest in Vlahovic is strategic. With Robert Lewandowski now 36 years old and without a true backup striker in the squad, new coach Hansi Flick is keen to strengthen the forward line ahead of the new season. Vlahovic, 25, is seen as a player with elite potential, despite a recent dip in form.
Sporting director Deco and club president Joan Laporta are reportedly aligned and ready to act only if Vlahovic is released by Juventus, eliminating the need for a costly transfer fee.
Salary a Major Obstacle
While the potential free agency of Vlahovic would eliminate a transfer cost, his current salary of €24 million (R$155 million) per year poses a serious financial challenge. For a deal to go through, the striker would need to accept a significant pay cut to fit within Barcelona’s wage structure.
What About Flamengo?
Though Vlahovic was previously on Flamengo’s radar, the Brazilian club is not expected to challenge Barcelona for his signing. Sources indicate that Flamengo’s sporting director José Boto admires the player but acknowledges that Vlahovic is out of reach financially and prioritizes staying in Europe.
Barcelona Still Dreaming of Julian Álvarez
Despite their interest in Vlahovic, Barcelona continues to dream of signing Julian Álvarez, the Argentine striker currently at Atlético Madrid. Álvarez’s style of play and nationality align with Barça’s vision for the future. However, a deal is highly unlikely in the current window due to:
- His valuation of over R$800 million
- His current happiness in Madrid
- Reluctance from Atlético to sell to a direct La Liga rival
