Pogba is Monaco’s new reinforcement

Paul Pogba is officially back in football, with AS Monaco confirming a deal to sign the French midfielder on a free transfer. Pogba, who has served an 18-month doping suspension, will sign a contract with the Ligue 1 club until June 2027, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

Fresh Start After Doping Suspension

The 31-year-old Pogba was initially handed a four-year ban following a doping violation in 2023 while at Juventus. However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced the sentence to 18 months, allowing the player to return to professional football.

His official presentation at Monaco is expected later this week, following routine medical tests.

A Homecoming to Ligue 1

This marks Pogba’s return to French football, where he began his youth career with Le Havre before joining Manchester United’s academy. Monaco is offering the midfielder a clean slate and banking on his leadership and international pedigree to reinforce their midfield.

Pogba’s Career Highlights:

Juventus (2012–2016, 2022–2024)

➤ 4× Serie A champion
➤ Reached 2015 UEFA Champions League final

Manchester United (2016–2022)

➤ Signed for €105 million, then a world record
➤ Won Europa League and EFL Cup in 2017

France National Team

➤ 2018 World Cup Winner

Setbacks and Redemption

Pogba’s second stint at Juventus was marred by injuries and the doping suspension, leaving him with minimal minutes on the pitch over two seasons. Yet, his new deal with Monaco reflects the club’s belief in his ability to reclaim his top form.

What This Means for Monaco

Monaco, who are targeting a return to the UEFA Champions League, will benefit from Pogba’s experience and versatility. If fit, the midfielder could quickly become a cornerstone in Adi Hütter’s squad, adding depth and leadership in Ligue 1 and European competitions.
