Chelsea have reportedly opened pre-summer talks with the representatives of Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, who is said to be open to the possibility of joining the Blues.

According to journalist Graeme Bailey of TEAMtalk, Chelsea have already made contact with Alvarez’s camp as they explore options to strengthen their attack ahead of the summer transfer window.

Chelsea planning attacking reinforcements

Chelsea’s recruitment team is actively working behind the scenes as the club looks to rebuild its squad and return to the top of English football. Alvarez has emerged as one of several high-profile names under consideration, alongside other attacking targets.

The former Manchester City striker joined Atletico Madrid in 2024 for around £82 million and has since registered 40 goals and 13 assists in 89 appearances across all competitions.

Player open to Premier League return

Sources suggest Alvarez has grown frustrated with certain aspects of life in Spain and is now open to a return to the Premier League. While Barcelona remains his preferred destination, their current financial and political situation could complicate any move.

That uncertainty has encouraged Chelsea to explore the opportunity, with the club ready to act quickly if conditions become favourable.

Transfer fee and wages

Alvarez is reportedly earning around £200,000 per week at Atletico Madrid, and any potential transfer would likely require a fee in the region of £80 million.

Despite the financial challenge, Chelsea remain keen on the Argentina international and are monitoring developments closely ahead of the summer window.
