Xavi Hernández, former Barcelona head coach, has emerged as one of the names under consideration by Manchester United following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim. The Spanish manager is currently a free agent and is reportedly attracting growing interest from the Red Devils’ hierarchy.

Manchester United confirmed Amorim’s departure on Monday (5), less than 18 months after his appointment, following controversial public comments made by the Portuguese coach criticising the club’s board. The decision has forced United into another managerial search during a crucial phase of the season.

Manchester United Assess Multiple Managerial Options

According to Spanish outlet AS, Xavi Hernández is among the candidates being seriously evaluated by Manchester United’s board. The club is working through a broad shortlist as it looks to stabilise results and define a long-term sporting project.

A separate report from The Telegraph reveals that United are also considering several other high-profile names. These include Enzo Maresca, Gareth Southgate, Marco Silva, Michael Carrick, Roberto De Zerbi, Julian Nagelsmann, Mauricio Pochettino, Eddie Howe and Thomas Tuchel.

Oliver Glasner Leads the Race, but Xavi Gains Ground

While Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is currently viewed as the leading contender, Xavi Hernández’s name continues to gain momentum at Old Trafford. His availability and experience at a top European club are seen as key advantages.

Xavi has been without a club since leaving Barcelona, where he coached 143 matches and led the team to the La Liga title during the 2022/23 season. His work with young players and emphasis on positional football remain highly regarded across Europe.

Xavi Open to Premier League Challenge

The 45-year-old has previously spoken openly about his desire to work in the Premier League, citing the league’s intensity, competitiveness and long-term project opportunities as major attractions.

In addition, Xavi’s positive relationship with Manchester United executive Omar Berrada could play an important role in any potential move, further strengthening his candidacy.

Amorim Exit Sparks Transitional Period at Old Trafford

Ruben Amorim’s exit marked another turbulent chapter for Manchester United. Following his dismissal, the club announced Darren Fletcher as interim manager. Fletcher will take charge of the upcoming Premier League fixture against Burnley on Wednesday (7).

Manchester United currently sit sixth in the Premier League table with 31 points, trailing league leaders Arsenal by 17 points. The club is aiming to secure European qualification while planning its next long-term managerial appointment.
