Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly identified Wolverhampton Wanderers’ left-back Hugo Bueno as their primary alternative after failing to lure Andrew Robertson away from Liverpool.

According to TEAMtalk, Ange Postecoglou’s side is scouring the market for defensive reinforcements. While Andrew Robertson was high on Spurs’ wishlist during the January window, Liverpool’s firm stance on keeping their veteran defender has forced Tottenham to pivot toward the younger, more attainable Spaniard.

Hugo Bueno is currently enjoying a productive loan spell at Feyenoord, where his performances in the Eredivisie and Champions League have caught the eye of top European scouts. Tottenham’s recruitment team believes the 23-year-old possesses the pace and tactical flexibility required for Postecoglou’s high-intensity system.

  • Target: Hugo Bueno (Wolves, on loan at Feyenoord)
  • Age: 23
  • Estimated Fee: €23 million (£19.5m)
  • Status: Potential summer move being prepared.

Why the Robertson Deal Failed

Tottenham’s ambitious move for Robertson was met with immediate resistance from Anfield. Despite Spurs’ willingness to offer a significant fee for the 31-year-old, Liverpool view the Scotsman as an “untouchable” part of their leadership group, especially as they compete for the Premier League title.

The Financials: A €23m Price Tag

Wolverhampton are reportedly open to a permanent sale at the end of the season to balance their books. A fee in the region of €23 million is considered fair value for a player who has already proven his worth in the Premier League, starting 14 matches for Wolves prior to his Dutch loan move.

Spurs face potential competition from clubs in Spain and Scotland, with Rangers previously showing interest, but the lure of European football in North London makes Tottenham the frontrunners for Bueno’s signature.
