THE DEPARTURE
Crystal Palace were the first to threaten in the 28th minute, when Sarr appeared well at the far post and almost scored after a header from Richards. The home team continued to press and opened the scoring in the 33rd minute. Aston Villa responded close to half-time. In the 43rd minute, Watkins gave a sweet pass to Rogers, who sent it into the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Even though it didn’t count, the move showed that the away team was still in the game.
And the second half was on fire! Aston Villa came back strong and, after just six minutes, Rogers tied the game with a beautiful turn inside the penalty area. Villa grew and looked like they were going to turn the game around, but Crystal Palace reacted quickly. In the 13th minute, Eze, despite falling, managed to make a great pass to Mateta, who struck firmly and put the home team back in front. From then on, Aston Villa launched themselves into the attack, trying to equalize, but ended up leaving spaces. And the punishment came in the 25th minute: in a quick counterattack, Sarr took advantage of the opportunity and, with his first touch, sent the ball into the back of the net, increasing Palace’s advantage. In injury time, Nketiah closed the scoring by dribbling past Bailey and shooting at goal.
