MADRID – Thiago Almada’s future has been officially decided. Despite intense speculation linking the Argentine World Cup winner with a move to Palmeiras for the 2026 season, Atlético Madrid have confirmed the playmaker will remain at the Civitas Metropolitano.
The club’s director, Mateu Alemany, clarified the situation ahead of Atlético’s clash with Galatasaray, signaling that the squad will not undergo further radical changes. “We have a very clear idea, discussed and thoroughly analyzed with the coach (Diego Simeone). We will follow this plan to the end,” Alemany stated.
Squad Overhaul Facilitates Almada’s Stay

The decision to keep Almada comes amidst a significant mid-season reshuffle for Los Colchoneros. To balance the books and refine the squad, Atlético have sanctioned several departures:
- Conor Gallagher: Sold to Tottenham Hotspur for €40 million.
- Giacomo Raspadori: Transferred to Atalanta in a €25 million deal.
- Javi Galán: Moved to Osasuna for €500,000.
- Carlos Martín: Loaned to Rayo Vallecano to gain first-team experience.
Alemany hinted that while these exits were necessary, the club is still scouting for “one or two top-level players” before the window closes in ten days.
Focus Shifts Back to La Liga
After a 1-1 draw in Europe against Galatasaray, Diego Simeone’s side now turns its attention back to La Liga. Atlético Madrid are set to host Mallorca this Sunday (January 25). With the transfer drama surrounding Almada settled, the focus remains on securing a vital three points at the Metropolitano.
