Bayern Munich have reportedly shifted their sights to Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo after failing to secure a deal for RB Leipzig’s rising star, Yan Diomande.
Following the massive success of Luis Díaz who swapped Anfield for the Allianz Arena in the summer of 2025 the Bayern board is eager to return to the Liverpool squad for further reinforcements. According to TEAMtalk, the German champions are prepared to launch a €75 million (£63m) bid for the Dutch international.
The Search for the New Luis Díaz
Bayern’s interest in Gakpo is fueled by the internal belief that the Bundesliga’s high-tempo, expansive style of play is perfectly suited for the 26-year-old. After seeing how quickly Luis Díaz adapted to life in Munich, Bayern’s management believes Gakpo could provide similar finishing prowess and movement from the left flank.
While Gakpo remains a valuable asset for Arne Slot at Liverpool, the lure of a guaranteed starting role and the “Díaz blueprint” could make a move to Germany tempting. However, talks are still in the preliminary stages, with no formal contact yet made between the clubs.
The Yan Diomande Obstacle

The pivot to Gakpo comes after Bayern hit a wall in negotiations with RB Leipzig for Yan Diomande. The German side has slapped a staggering €100 million price tag on the striker, a figure Bayern is currently unwilling to meet.
Interestingly, the pursuit of Gakpo could play into Liverpool’s hands. Diomande has publicly expressed his desire to play at Anfield, and the Reds are said to be monitoring his situation closely. Should Gakpo depart for Munich, the funds generated would likely be immediately reinvested into triggering Diomande’s release clause.
Market Outlook
As the January window approaches its final stages, Bayern must decide whether to commit to the €75m investment for Gakpo or wait for a potential drop in Diomande’s valuation. For Liverpool, losing another key attacker to Munich would be a blow, but the prospect of landing Diomande might make it a risk worth taking.
