Crystal Palace has reportedly accepted that star midfielder Adam Wharton will leave the club in the upcoming summer transfer window, with Manchester United leading a pack of Premier League giants for his signature.
The 21-year-old England international has been a revelation at Selhurst Park since his arrival from Blackburn. According to TEAMtalk, there is now a “gentleman’s agreement” between the player and the club: Wharton will remain under Oliver Glasner until the end of the 2025/26 season to help Palace secure a European spot, with a move sanctioned for July.
The “Carrick-esque” Midfielder
The interest from Old Trafford is particularly poetic. Currently managed on an interim basis by club legend Michael Carrick who recently took over following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim United sees Wharton as the spiritual successor to Carrick himself.
His ability to dictate the tempo and his elite passing range have made him a “bombshell” target for the Red Devils’ board. Reports suggest a bid in the region of £65m to £80m will be required to convince Palace to part with their “crown jewel.”
Transfer Battle: United vs. Tottenham & Liverpool

While Manchester United is the frontrunner, the race is far from over:
- Tottenham: Spurs are prepared to make a “very significant offer,” viewing Wharton as the ideal profile to build their midfield around for the next decade.
- Liverpool: Arne Slot’s side is also monitoring the situation, looking for a long-term replacement for their aging midfield options.
Season at a Glance (2025/26)
Wharton’s importance to Palace cannot be overstated. This season, he has been ever-present in the starting XI:
- Appearances: 20 (Premier League)
- Passing Accuracy: 81%
- Key Role: Instrumental in Palace’s FA Cup win and Community Shield success in 2025.
