Alejandro Garnacho’s future at Stamford Bridge is shrouded in uncertainty. Just six months after his high-profile €46m move from Manchester United, the 21-year-old winger is reportedly considering a loan move away from London to secure his place in Argentina’s World Cup squad.

According to Football Transfers, Garnacho has grown increasingly frustrated with his lack of playing time under manager Liam Rosenior. The primary reason for his benching has been the sensational form of Brazilian wonderkid Estêvão, who has cemented his place on the wing alongside Jamie Gittens and Pedro Neto.

The Atlético Madrid Connection

The “Garnacho situation” has put several top clubs on high alert, with Atlético Madrid leading the chase. A move to the Metropolitano would be a homecoming for Garnacho, who spent three years in Atlético’s youth ranks before moving to Manchester in 2020.

While Chelsea beat Atlético to his signature last summer, a short-term loan could suit all parties—giving Garnacho the minutes he craves while potentially increasing his market value, currently estimated at €45m.

Despite the player’s desire for more minutes, the Chelsea coaching staff is hesitant to sanction a departure. With the Blues now sitting in the Premier League Top Four and facing a congested second half of the season across multiple competitions, Rosenior views Garnacho as a vital “impact sub” and squad rotation player.

Garnacho’s Season at a Glance:

  • Appearances: 24
  • Goals: 6
  • Assists: 3
  • Total Goal Involvements: 9

The World Cup Factor

With the next World Cup looming, Garnacho fears that a season spent on the Chelsea bench could cost him a starting spot in Lionel Scaloni’s side. For the young Argentine, the next few days of the January window will be decisive for his career trajectory.
