London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea have reportedly established contact with Jamal Musiala’s representatives, as the Bayern Munich superstar’s future becomes tied to a unique “diminishing” release clause.

Despite Musiala’s long-standing admiration for Barcelona, the Catalan giants’ financial constraints have cleared the way for a Premier League bidding war. According to reports from Bayern Space, the German international’s contract contains a specific clause designed to decrease in value with every passing transfer window.

The €150m Opportunity

Initially set at €175 million during his 2025 contract renewal, the release clause has already dropped to €150 million (£125m) for the upcoming summer window. This figure will continue to fall annually, making him an increasingly attractive—though still premium—target for Europe’s elite.

Why Bayern Might Be Forced to Sell

While Bayern Munich officially maintains that Musiala is not for sale, the financial structure of his deal presents a long-term challenge for the Bavarian giants:

  • The 10% Escalator: Musiala’s salary increases by 10% every year.
  • Record-Breaking Wages: By the end of his contract in 2030, his earnings could exceed €52 million per year, making it the most expensive contract in the history of German football.

London Calling: Arsenal vs. Chelsea

Both Mikel Arteta and Liam Rosenior are keen to add a world-class creative spark to their midfields.

  • Arsenal view Musiala as the final piece of their championship-winning puzzle.
  • Chelsea see the move as a homecoming, given Musiala spent much of his youth development in the Blues’ academy before moving to Germany.

For Barcelona, the dream of seeing Musiala in a Blaugrana shirt remains “impossible” under current economic conditions, leaving the door wide open for a return to England.
