Nottingham Forest’s Jota Silva misses out on Sporting Lisbon transfer due to delay

Nottingham Forest winger Jota Silva saw his transfer to Sporting CP collapse in dramatic fashion after paperwork was filed just one minute past the registration deadline. The failed move keeps the 26-year-old in the Premier League under Nuno Espírito Santo.
Deal Collapses at Midnight Deadline
According to Jornal Record, Sporting submitted Silva’s registration to the Portuguese League at 12:01 a.m., one minute after the market officially closed. The league rejected the filing, voiding the agreement for a season-long loan with an option to buy.
The incident, though unusual, is not unprecedented. European leagues strictly enforce registration deadlines, leaving no room for exceptions even in cases of minimal delays.
Botafogo Had Also Tried
Silva was also a late target for Botafogo, who explored a deal in the final hours of the transfer window. Nottingham Forest initially resisted offers from both clubs before Sporting pushed through an agreement—only for timing issues to derail it.
Staying at Nottingham Forest
With the failed transfer, Silva remains at the City Ground, where he is under contract until June 2028. He returns to Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad as an attacking option for the rest of the Premier League campaign.
The Portuguese winger has already featured this season and is expected to compete for more minutes as Forest look to secure a stable mid-table finish.
