Manchester United risks losing Casemiro and three others for free in 2026

Manchester United face a crucial few months regarding four key players Casemiro, Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia, and Tom Heaton all of whom could walk away for free in the 2026 summer market. Unless the club acts soon, the quartet will be free to sign pre-contracts with other teams as early as January 2026.
Red Devils Yet to Define Strategy
The Manchester club is still weighing its options, but renewal scenarios remain uncertain. Maguire is considered the likeliest to extend his stay. Signed in 2019 for £80 million, the defender has been inconsistent but retains leadership and market value, currently estimated at €15 million by Transfermarkt.
Casemiro, meanwhile, has lived contrasting chapters. After being sidelined under Erik ten Hag, the Brazilian regained space under new coach Rúben Amorim, even returning to the national team setup. His high salary complicates matters, leaving his future at Old Trafford hanging in the balance.
Malacia and Heaton Closer to Exit
For Tyrell Malacia and Tom Heaton, the scenario appears more defined. The left-back has struggled with recurring injuries and was already transfer-listed this summer, but no deal materialized. Heaton, 39, is now fourth-choice behind Onana, Bayındır, and newcomer Senne Lammens. Retirement or a non-playing role within the club are seen as likely outcomes.
Heavy Spending This Summer
The uncertainty comes against a backdrop of major spending. In the last transfer window alone, United invested €250.7 million, the fifth-highest among Premier League sides.
Top signings included:
- Benjamin Šeško (RB Leipzig) – €76.5m
- Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford) – €75m
- Matheus Cunha (Wolves) – €74.2m
The Old Trafford board now faces the challenge of balancing future squad planning with avoiding the loss of valuable assets for free.
