Manchester City crushes United 3-0 with Haaland and Foden braces at the Etihad

Manchester City restored confidence with a dominant 3-0 win over rivals Manchester United in the Premier League derby, as Erling Haaland scored twice and Phil Foden struck early. Jérémy Doku shone with two assists, while new goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma impressed on debut.

With the result, City climbed to eighth in the table, breaking a run of two defeats. United’s struggles continued, leaving them in 14th place and deepening their crisis.

City Sets the Tone Early

The derby began at high intensity. Within 14 seconds, City nearly struck through Haaland, signaling the danger. In the 17th minute, Rodri set the pace, feeding Doku, who dribbled past Luke Shaw and crossed. The rebound off Manuel Ugarte fell to Phil Foden, who coolly headed in the opener.

United responded with pressure: Šeško and Mbeumo tested the defense, but Rúben Dias held firm, and debutant Donnarumma denied them with strong saves. The first half ended tightly, City ahead but not comfortable.

Haaland Decides the Derby

City returned more aggressive. In the 52nd minute, Doku once again burst down the right, sending in a ball for Haaland, who finished with a deft chip to double the lead. Minutes later, the Norwegian hit the post, keeping United under siege.

United’s best chance came with Mbeumo’s volley, forcing another fine Donnarumma stop. But in the 67th minute, Bernardo Silva intercepted a loose ball and played Haaland through, who slotted calmly past Bayındır for 3-0, sealing the Citizens’ victory.

Key Performers

  • Erling Haaland – A brace that showcased both composure and power.
  • Phil Foden – Once again United’s executioner, opening the scoring.
  • Jérémy Doku – Relentless on the right flank, delivering two assists.

United, meanwhile, faltered in midfield. The Ugarte–Bruno Fernandes partnership failed to create consistent chances, while Mbeumo’s efforts weren’t enough to overcome City’s dominance.
