Javi Galán’s transfer to Nottingham Forest collapses at the last minute

Atlético de Madrid full-back Javi Galán was on the verge of joining Nottingham Forest, but the deal broke down in the final hours of the transfer window, leaving the Spaniard in Madrid despite passing medicals and agreeing terms.
Transfer Agreed but Paperwork Failed
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Atlético and Nottingham Forest had reached an agreement worth up to €15 million, with Galán signing a three-year contract plus an option for a further season.
The 30-year-old defender even underwent medical examinations in Madrid, awaiting the green light to fly to England. However, delays in submitting the necessary paperwork meant the deal was not registered before the Premier League deadline.
Simeone’s Plans Left Galán Sidelined
Galán’s future at Atlético had already been uncertain. Coach Diego Simeone had excluded him from his main plans for the season, preferring new arrivals Matteo Ruggeri and David Hancko to fill the left-back position.
The transfer to Nottingham Forest was expected to provide Atlético with both salary relief and fresh funds, but the collapse means the club will carry Galán on its books for at least another few months.
Window Closes with Frustration
The Spanish side had been confident the move would be completed in time, but the missed deadline ended hopes of an agreement. For now, Galán remains at the Wanda Metropolitano, though both player and club are expected to revisit his departure in the next transfer window.
