Francesco Farioli named Portugal’s Coach of the Month after an unbeaten start in Porto

Italian coach Francesco Farioli has been awarded Liga Portugal’s Coach of the Month for August after guiding Porto to an unbeaten run in his opening games.
Strong Start at Porto
Liga Portugal confirmed on Tuesday (Sept 9) that Farioli secured the monthly honor following three wins and one draw in Porto’s first four league matches. The results gave the club 10 points and an 83% success rate, edging out Petit (Boavista) and Moreno (Vitória SC) in the official vote.
Style and Results Aligned
The League highlighted not just the results but also the distinct tactical identity Farioli has already stamped on the team. Porto scored nine goals, conceded just three, and dominated possession in all four fixtures, even while missing key players through injury.
A Historic Achievement
At just 35, Farioli became the first foreign coach since 2020 to win the award in the opening month of a Portuguese league season. His approach focused on short build-up play, post-loss pressing, and tactical modernity has quickly earned praise from both the League and Porto supporters.
What’s Next for Porto
With confidence high, Porto now look ahead to tougher fixtures. The Dragons face Nacional before a trip to Rio Ave and then prepare for their Champions League debut later in September. The challenge will be maintaining form amid stronger competition and ongoing squad rotation due to injuries.
