Alexis Sánchez joins Sevilla: a look at the Chilean striker’s career

Sevilla officially presented 36-year-old Chilean striker Alexis Sánchez on Tuesday (09), marking the latest chapter in a career spanning Europe’s biggest clubs and international glory with Chile.

Sevilla’s new number 10

Sánchez, announced at the end of the transfer window on September 1, has been unveiled as Sevilla’s new number 10. Last season, he played for Udinese in Italy. At Sevilla, he will compete for playing time with forwards Akor Adams and Isaac Romero.

European journey

Discovered by Cobreloa, Sánchez moved to Europe early in his career, joining Udinese. Loan spells at Colo-Colo and River Plate helped him gain experience before establishing himself in Italy.

In 2011, Sánchez signed for Barcelona, winning five titles but never fully cementing a starting spot. He played 141 games, scored 46 goals, and provided 30 assists for Barça.

His move to Arsenal in 2014 marked the peak of his club career. Sánchez featured in 166 matches, netting 80 goals and contributing 38 assists, helping the Gunners win two FA Cups.

A transfer to Manchester United in 2018 was less successful, yielding just five goals in 45 appearances. He later returned to Italy with Inter Milan (2019–2024), winning two Serie A titles, and had stints at Olympique de Marseille (2022–2023) and Udinese, before moving to Sevilla.

International success with Chile

Sánchez was a key figure in Chile’s golden generation, winning the Copa América in 2015 and 2016, the only major titles in the nation’s football history.

First called up in 2006, he has earned 169 caps and scored 52 goals for Chile. Despite being left out of the current FIFA World Cup squad, his legacy with La Roja remains significant.
