Real Madrid could agree to David Alaba’s transfer to Fenerbahçe in Türkiye

Austrian defender could leave the Bernabéu as injuries and high wages take a toll

Real Madrid are considering the departure of veteran defender David Alaba, with Turkish giants Fenerbahçe reportedly interested in signing the 33-year-old. The move could help reduce the wage bill, as Alaba remains one of the highest earners in the current squad.

The Austrian international has played a limited role due to recurring injuries, managing just 14 appearances last season. Despite this, his experience and pedigree continue to attract attention, particularly from José Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe, according to reports from Defensa Central and Transfer Feed.

Mourinho approves potential deal

Sources close to the negotiations indicate that Mourinho has approved the pursuit of Alaba, who could become one of the most high-profile arrivals in Turkish football this summer. Fenerbahçe are reportedly willing to offer a competitive package to secure the deal.

Alaba joined Real Madrid in 2021/22 on a free transfer from Bayern Munich and quickly established himself as a starter. In his debut season, he featured in 46 matches, scoring three goals and providing four assists—but has since struggled with form and fitness.

Internal doubts over Alaba’s future

While Alaba remains respected within the dressing room, Real Madrid’s hierarchy is reportedly concerned about his injury record and wage impact. With a reduced role under manager Xabi Alonso, club officials are now open to negotiating with European clubs, including Fenerbahçe.

If the transfer proceeds, Alaba would join a growing list of high-profile players making the move to Turkey’s Süper Lig. Galatasaray’s acquisition of stars like Victor Osimhen has paved the way for other clubs to follow suit in attracting big names.

More exits expected before the transfer deadline

Alaba may not be the only player on the move. Sources suggest that Rodrygo Goes could also be sold before the window closes. The Brazilian forward, who has seen his starting role diminish, is drawing serious interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur.

PSG are reportedly considering a package involving two players to land the former Santos standout, indicating that Real Madrid could face a significant squad reshuffle ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
