Sunderland considering signing Aleksandar Mitrović from Al-Hilal for Premier League campaign

Sunderland is considering a bold move to sign Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrović from Al-Hilal as the club prepares for its Premier League comeback.
According to reports from the British press, the 30-year-old forward has been offered to the newly promoted side. Sunderland views him as a key option to strengthen its attack ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Mitrović, currently playing for Saudi club Al-Hilal, has netted an impressive 68 goals in 79 appearances since his move in 2023. Despite a season affected by injuries, he remains open to returning to English football—a league he knows well after previous spells with Newcastle United and Fulham.
Competition from Leeds United
Sunderland isn’t the only club evaluating the striker. Leeds United has also been informed of Mitrović’s availability in the current European transfer window. However, Sunderland’s recent promotion and need for Premier League-ready talent could give them extra incentive to pursue the deal.
Al-Hilal Open to Transfer Talks
Al-Hilal is reportedly open to negotiating Mitrović’s transfer this summer. The striker was signed for around €53 million (approximately R$337 million) in 2023 and is under contract until June 2026. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is estimated at €18 million.
The Saudi club’s willingness to negotiate could pave the way for a return to England for Mitrović, who is regarded as a proven goal scorer with the physical profile to thrive in the Premier League.
Sunderland’s Premier League Strategy
Sunderland’s board is weighing the financial implications of the move but considers the interest in Mitrović to be genuine. His experience and goal-scoring consistency are viewed as ideal qualities to help the team compete at the highest level.
The club is also monitoring other attacking options, including Real Madrid prospect Gonzalo García, as part of a broader effort to build a competitive squad.
