Ruben Amorim admits frustration at Manchester United and explains mixed emotions: “Sometimes I want to give up”

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has admitted to feeling frustrated at Old Trafford, revealing that he has even considered walking away from the project. His comments come just days after United’s shocking elimination from the English League Cup at the hands of fourth-tier side Grimsby.

Amorim reacts to criticism after cup exit

Speaking to the press on Friday (29), the Portuguese coach addressed the strong reactions to his post-match outburst. Amorim had openly criticized his squad after the defeat but sought to ease tensions by explaining the emotional context behind his remarks.

“Sometimes I want to quit, sometimes I want to stay here for 20 years. Sometimes I hate my players, sometimes I love them that’s just my way of doing things. At that moment, I was disappointed. We had a good preseason and were playing better,” he said.

Poor record raises concerns

Amorim, who arrived from Sporting with high expectations, has struggled to replicate his success in England. Since taking charge, he has managed 45 games with only 16 wins a win rate far below his record in Portugal.

Last season, United finished just 15th in the Premier League with 42 points and lost the FA Cup final to Tottenham, adding pressure to the club’s ongoing rebuild.

Crucial match against Burnley

The defeat to Grimsby, combined with setbacks against Arsenal and Fulham, has left United in 16th place after two rounds, with only one point. They are one of eight teams still winless in the competition.

On Saturday (30), Amorim’s side face Burnley at Old Trafford. The match could either deepen the crisis around the Portuguese manager or offer a moment of relief in a turbulent start to the season.
