Real Madrid decide not to sign Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández in this transfer window

Chelsea midfielder will remain in the Premier League despite interest from Spain

Real Madrid have decided not to pursue the signing of Enzo Fernández during the current transfer window, despite previously identifying the Chelsea star as a potential long-term replacement for Toni Kroos.

The Argentine midfielder, one of the Blues’ standout players last season, had been high on the shortlist for Los Blancos. However, according to Spanish outlet Defensa Central, the operation is considered “almost impossible” at this stage, with both clubs far from reaching an agreement.

Chelsea unwilling to sell

Chelsea are reportedly demanding a fee well above what Real Madrid are prepared to offer. The London club has no intention of negotiating a discount and plans to keep the 24-year-old for at least another season.

While Madrid president Florentino Pérez remains an admirer of Fernández, the Spanish champions are not prepared to make a record-breaking bid in 2025. The player will continue to be monitored ahead of potential moves in 2026.

Other midfield targets under consideration

Real Madrid’s search for a high-impact midfielder continues. Alternatives include Alexis Mac Allister from Liverpool, though his price tag is proving prohibitive, and Vitinha of PSG, who is said to be open to a move but would also require tough negotiations.

Enzo Fernández ended the 2024/25 season in excellent form, playing a decisive role in Chelsea’s FIFA Club World Cup victory and recording nine goals and 17 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions.
