Premier League clubs dominate transfer spending, only Madrid’s rivals make the top 10

The Premier League continues to lead Europe’s transfer market, with eight of the ten biggest spenders in the current window coming from England. The only exceptions are Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid, who appear as “intruders” among the English giants, according to Transfermarkt.

Liverpool leads with record outlay

At the top of the list is Liverpool, who have invested €339.7 million in reinforcements, including the blockbuster signing of Florian Wirtz for €125 million. Chelsea follow with €290.7m, while Manchester United (€229.7m) and Arsenal (€224.2m) also surpassed the €200m mark.

In comparison, both Madrid clubs trail far behind. Atlético spent €175m, while Real Madrid have invested €167.5m so far enough to place them sixth and seventh respectively, but still far off the pace set by the English elite.

Sunderland’s shock return and heavy investment

One of the biggest surprises is Sunderland, who returned to the Premier League and made an immediate splash. The Black Cats spent €165m on 10 new signings, a figure that nonetheless represents less than half of Liverpool’s outlay.

Also appearing on the list are Manchester City (€176.9m), Newcastle (€146.2m) and Tottenham (€145.6m), further underscoring England’s dominance in the transfer market.

In Brazil, the deadline is September 2nd, while Saudi Arabia which has reshaped the football landscape in recent years will close its window on September 23rd, with the national league kicking off in late August.
