Milan secures first Serie A win with 2-0 victory over Lecce

With goals from Loftus-Cheek and Pulisic, Milan overcame Lecce 2-0 away from home to claim their first three points of the 2025/26 Serie A season, in a match marked by Luka Modrić’s decisive leadership.

Milan Finds Relief After Early Struggles

Milan bounced back in Serie A after their disappointing opening defeat to Cremonese. On Friday night, Massimiliano Allegri’s side earned a 2-0 win at Via del Mare, with goals in the second half securing the result.

The first half, however, was far from comfortable. Milan had two goals disallowed—one from Gabbia for a foul and another from Giménez due to offside. The team showed signs of nervousness, lacking rhythm and creativity against Lecce’s compact defense.

Modrić Leads, Loftus-Cheek Breaks the Deadlock

The turning point came in the 66th minute. Luka Modrić, making his presence felt in midfield, delivered a perfectly measured free kick to Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who headed home to put Milan in front.

From that moment on, the Rossoneri gained control of the match, dictating tempo and limiting Lecce’s counterattacks. Allegri, however, continued to urge his players to maintain intensity from the sidelines.

Pulisic Seals the Result in Stoppage Time

In stoppage time, Christian Pulisic punished Lecce’s defensive lapse with a powerful finish, securing the 2-0 win and giving Milan their first victory of the new campaign.

Despite the positive result, the match once again highlighted concerns over Milan’s attacking fluidity and ability to break down organized defenses. Allegri’s frustration was evident, signaling that improvements will be demanded moving forward.

Off the Pitch: Nkunku Set to Arrive

Away from the field, Milan is close to confirming the signing of Christopher Nkunku, who has already undergone medical tests. The French forward is expected to strengthen an attack that has struggled since key departures last season.
