Milan ask Manchester City about Manuel Akanji as transfer race heats up

AC Milan have contacted Manchester City to inquire about the business terms for defender Manuel Akanji, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Italian club has not yet made a formal offer but has the Swiss international on its shortlist of candidates to strengthen the defense before the transfer window closes.
Milan join race with Galatasaray and Crystal Palace
Milan are not alone in monitoring Akanji’s situation. Crystal Palace are also interested, while Galatasaray have already agreed a £15 million deal with City. However, the Turkish giants are yet to reach an agreement with the player over personal terms, leaving the move on hold.
Negotiations between Galatasaray and Akanji’s entourage were scheduled for last week, but no breakthrough has been reported so far. This uncertainty has opened the door for Milan to step in.
Akanji’s contract and City career
The 28-year-old defender joined Manchester City in September 2022 and is under contract until June 2027. According to Transfermarkt, he is currently valued at €28 million (R$176m).
Last season, Akanji made 40 appearances, starting 35 matches and registering one assist, playing a key role in Pep Guardiola’s defensive rotation.
