Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana is expected to return to the starting lineup against Fulham

Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana is set to return to the starting lineup in the Premier League clash against Fulham on Sunday (24), according to journalist Alex Crook of TalkSport. The Cameroonian, who was left out of the opening round defeat to Arsenal, is expected to reclaim his place between the posts.

Goalkeeping Situation at Old Trafford

In the season opener, manager Rúben Amorim surprised by starting Turkish goalkeeper Altay Bayindir. Onana had been heavily criticized for an error that led to Arsenal’s winning goal in preseason, but Amorim reportedly still trusts the 28-year-old to lead the defense moving forward.

Manchester United lost 1-0 to Arsenal at Old Trafford, putting immediate pressure on the team to bounce back in the second round. Onana’s return could provide stability as the Red Devils prepare for a busy stretch of fixtures.

Search for Reinforcements

Despite Onana’s expected reinstatement, United’s board has been evaluating goalkeeper options due to lingering concerns and squad depth. Among the names linked are Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG), Emiliano Martínez (Aston Villa), and even a possible return of David De Gea. However, a signing before the transfer window closes is considered unlikely.

Onana’s Numbers

Onana missed the latter part of last season after suffering a thigh injury during training at Carrington. Before that setback, he played 50 of United’s 60 matches, conceding 65 goals (an average of 1.3 per game) and recording two clean sheets. Despite mixed performances, his experience and shot-stopping ability keep him as Amorim’s first choice.
