Maddison’s injury accelerates Tottenham’s push for Manchester City’s Grealish

Tottenham Hotspur have intensified their pursuit of Manchester City midfielder Jack Grealish following a potentially season-ending injury to James Maddison. The 27-year-old playmaker suffered a serious knee injury during a preseason friendly against Newcastle in Seoul on Sunday (August 3).

Spurs Fear ACL Rupture, Turn to Grealish as Urgent Replacement

Initial reports from Sports Mole suggest Maddison may have ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), which could sideline him until mid-2026. The midfielder left the pitch in visible pain and later appeared on crutches, raising further concerns about a long-term absence.

Although the full extent of the injury will be confirmed in the coming days through further medical evaluation, Tottenham are preparing for the worst-case scenario and have fast-tracked their interest in Grealish, 28.

Grealish Opens Door as Napoli Withdraws

With Napoli pulling out of the race for Grealish, Tottenham are now the frontrunners. The club is weighing up whether to propose a loan deal or a permanent transfer. Grealish, who has struggled for regular minutes at City, is reportedly open to the move in search of more playing time.

Despite scoring just three goals and providing five assists in 32 games last season, Grealish remains a high-level creative talent, and his experience is seen as crucial for Spurs’ squad stability.

City’s No. 10 Still Under Contract Until 2027

Jack Grealish’s contract with Manchester City runs until June 2027, making any deal potentially complex. However, Pep Guardiola’s willingness to rotate could pave the way for a mutually beneficial agreement if Tottenham submits the right offer.

Tottenham’s Midfield Crisis Deepens

Beyond Maddison, Spurs are also contending with an injury to Dejan Kulusevski, while Lucas Bergvall and Alfie Devine are still maturing into first-team roles. As a result, manager Thomas Frank has made it clear to the board that signing an experienced playmaker is a top priority.

The club had also shown interest in Morgan Gibbs-White, but any move collapsed after Nottingham Forest renewed his contract amid tampering allegations involving Spurs.
