Liverpool target Alexander Isak receives ultimatum from Newcastle manager: “We are focused”

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is under fire after failing to report for pre-season duties with the English club. The Swedish international, currently linked with Liverpool and Al-Hilal, was spotted training without permission at Real Sociedad’s facilities in Spain despite claims he was in England recovering from a thigh injury.
Howe Issues Stern Warning
Following a 1-1 pre-season draw against Tottenham in Seoul, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe addressed Isak’s absence. The coach did not mince words:
“No player can expect to act badly and continue training normally with the squad. We are Newcastle,” Howe stated.
He emphasized the need for professionalism and commitment, warning that discipline would be a deciding factor in future squad decisions.
Training in Spain Sparks Internal Discontent
Newcastle had previously announced that Isak would remain in England for injury treatment and would not travel with the team to South Korea. However, leaked images of the striker training in Spain without club authorization sparked internal unrest and raised questions about the player’s conduct.
When pressed about the striker’s return timeline, Howe remained vague:
“We’re focused here on training and matches. Other people are dealing with his situation at home.”
Liverpool and Al-Hilal Monitor Situation
The situation comes as Liverpool and Al-Hilal intensify their interest in the 25-year-old. Isak had a standout season in 2024–25, scoring 27 goals and providing six assists in 42 appearances, making him one of the Premier League’s most sought-after forwards.
Despite the controversy, Isak has yet to issue a public statement. Newcastle’s management is reportedly evaluating disciplinary measures and remains open to potential transfer negotiations depending on how the situation unfolds.
Relationship Under Strain
Isak’s relationship with Newcastle once considered strong is now facing tension. Howe, determined to preserve team unity, has made it clear that no player is above the standards set for the squad.
As the transfer window continues, Isak’s next move remains uncertain. What is clear, however, is that Newcastle will not tolerate actions they see as undermining the club’s values or structure.
