Former Barcelona and Liverpool midfielder negotiates contract termination with Juventus

Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo is close to finalizing his departure from Juventus. According to journalist Fábio Vargas, the 28-year-old is negotiating the termination of his contract with the Italian club to return to Grêmio, where he first rose to prominence.

Out of Juventus’ plans for the upcoming season, Arthur is eager to revive his career in Brazil, and Grêmio appears to be the natural destination. The club is reportedly working to financially structure the deal, despite the significant gap between the player’s current wages and what Grêmio can offer.

Juventus Exit and Failed Real Betis Deal

Arthur, who had loan spells at Liverpool, Fiorentina, and most recently Girona, was previously linked with a move to Real Betis. Talks advanced for a loan agreement with the Spanish club, but the deal eventually collapsed.

With no viable offers in Europe, the midfielder turned his focus to Grêmio, a club he reportedly already signaled interest in rejoining.

Salary Cut Expected in Brazil

At Juventus, Arthur earns around R$4 million per month (approx. €660,000/month), a figure well above the ceiling of Brazilian clubs. For a deal to happen, he would need to accept a significant pay cut.

Grêmio is reportedly preparing an offer around R$1 million/month (approx. €165,000/month), plus performance-based bonuses. If the deal goes through, Arthur would become one of the highest-paid players at the club.

Grêmio’s Longstanding Interest

Grêmio has long dreamed of bringing Arthur back, and with the support of vice-president Marcelo Marques, the club believes this is the right moment to make it happen.

The move could be a turning point for both parties Arthur gets the chance to rebuild his form and reputation, while Grêmio gains a player with European and international experience.
