Defending champions Liverpool make their Premier League debut against Bournemouth

Reinforced Reds aim for strong start despite key departures

The Premier League returns this Friday (15) with defending champions Liverpool opening the 2025/26 season at Anfield against last year’s surprise package, Bournemouth. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. (Brasília time) with live streaming on Disney+.

Champions Ready for New Campaign

Under manager Arne Slot, Liverpool enter the new season as the team to beat. Despite losing key players Darwin Núñez, Luis Díaz, and Trent Alexander-Arnold now at Real Madrid the club moved decisively in the transfer market. New arrivals Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, and Hugo Ekitiké are expected to inject fresh energy into the squad.

The Reds are also monitoring Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who has reportedly expressed his desire to leave St. James’ Park. If signed, the Swedish international would become Liverpool’s new focal point in attack.

Bournemouth’s Challenge After Key Exits

Bournemouth, who impressed in the 2024/25 campaign, face the challenge of rebuilding after losing several core players to Europe’s elite clubs. Rising star Dean Huijsen joined Real Madrid, Illia Zabarnyi moved to PSG, and Kerkez made the switch to Liverpool.

Without direct replacements for the defensive departures, the Cherries’ most notable signing has been goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic from Chelsea, brought in to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga, who left for Arsenal.

Early Test for Both Sides

For Liverpool, the match is an opportunity to set the tone for another title charge. For Bournemouth, it’s a chance to prove they can still compete at a high level despite a summer of setbacks. With both teams eager to start strong, Anfield’s season opener promises an intense battle.
