The 18-year-old ‘special’ talent has caught Ruben Amorim’s eye as United plan a major midfield overhaul for the 2026-27 season.

With the January window now closed, Manchester United have already pivoted to their summer strategy, identifying Wolverhampton’s breakout star Mateus Mané as a priority. According to TeamTalk and Sports Boom, the Red Devils have held preliminary talks with Wolves to understand the conditions required to bring the versatile teenager to Old Trafford.

The £50 Million Price Tag

Despite his age, Mateus Mané is not expected to come cheap. Having recently signed a new long-term contract at Molineux (valid until June 2029), Wolverhampton has slapped a £50 million valuation on the England youth international.

However, industry insiders suggest this price could fluctuate depending on Wolves’ final standing in the Premier League. With the club currently battling near the relegation zone, a drop to the Championship could force their hand, potentially lowering the fee for interested suitors.

Tactical Versatility: The “New Generation” Midfielder

What makes Mané so attractive to Ruben Amorim is his tactical adaptability. While naturally an attacking midfielder or winger, he has flourished this season in a more central, box-to-box role under manager Rob Edwards.

  • Season Highlights: At just 18, he has already notched 2 goals and 1 assist in the Premier League this campaign, showcasing maturity far beyond his years.
  • Hybrid Profile: His ability to transition from defense to attack seamlessly fits the high-intensity system Amorim is implementing at United.

Competition from the Big Six

Manchester United are far from alone in their pursuit. Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal are also reportedly monitoring the Portuguese-born starlet. While United currently appears well-positioned, the race is expected to intensify as the season reaches its climax in May.

Mané joins a list of midfield targets for United that includes names like Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace) and Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest), as the club prepares for the confirmed departure of veterans like Casemiro.
