Chelsea target €60m Piero Hincapié transfer after Colwill injury

Blues accelerate talks with Bayer Leverkusen for Ecuadorian defender as spending nears £300m
Chelsea have made Piero Hincapié their top defensive target following the devastating injury to Levi Colwill, which will sideline the England international for most of the season. The Blues are now pushing to finalize a deal for the Bayer Leverkusen centre-back before the new campaign kicks off this weekend.
Urgent Search After Defensive Setback
Manager Enzo Maresca has already overseen major attacking reinforcements this summer, with Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens, and Estevão arriving to bolster the frontline. However, the ACL injury suffered by Colwill during preseason has left Chelsea’s defense exposed, prompting urgent action in the transfer market.
Record-Breaking Spending on the Horizon
According to Bolavip, Chelsea are preparing a €60 million (£50.5m / R$379.04 million) bid for Hincapié, a figure that could push the club’s summer spending beyond £300 million (R$2.19 billion). Bayer Leverkusen are holding out for at least €70 million (£59m / R$442.22 million), particularly after already losing key names like Florian Wirtz, Jonathan Tah, Jeremie Frimpong, and Granit Xhaka.
The 22-year-old Ecuador international is open to the move, though he has not publicly requested a transfer. His arrival would strengthen the left side of defense, offering both pace and ball-playing ability.
Alternative Options Already in Place
Chelsea have already signed 18-year-old Jorrel Hato from Ajax, a versatile defender capable of playing as both centre-back and left-back. While the club could opt to promote the teenager into a starting role, Maresca has insisted on adding experienced depth before the season begins.
