Former Corinthians goalkeeper has struggled to establish himself in Europe and throughout his professional journey

Carlos Miguel’s time at Nottingham Forest may be nearing an end, as the English club reportedly advised the Brazilian goalkeeper to seek opportunities elsewhere. The information comes from The Telegraph, which claims the 26-year-old could be on the move again despite signing a long-term contract earlier this year.

The ex-Corinthians player has faced a challenging professional path. According to OGol, Carlos Miguel has played only 36 matches in his entire senior career, including his recent spell in England. His limited experience has raised concerns about his readiness for European football.

A Career of Limited Opportunities

Carlos Miguel began his journey at Internacional, featuring primarily in youth squads between 2018 and 2020. He made eight appearances for the U-19s, three for the U-20s, and ten with the U-23 team. Despite being promoted to the professional squad in 2019, he never made a senior appearance for the Porto Alegre-based club.

In 2020, he was loaned to Santa Cruz, where he also failed to play. The following year, another loan to Boa Esporte resulted in just eight matches — his first real run of senior games. Later that year, Carlos Miguel joined Corinthians on a free transfer, but remained a backup to long-time starter Cássio.

Breakthrough at Corinthians and Short-Lived European Move

It wasn’t until 2022 that Carlos Miguel began getting opportunities, making two appearances under then-head coach Vítor Pereira. In 2023, he featured in nine matches, and his most active spell came in 2024, with 14 starts following Cássio’s departure to Cruzeiro.

Despite finally earning playing time, Carlos opted to move abroad, accepting an offer from Nottingham Forest. Since arriving in England, he has played only three times, facing criticism from fans for key mistakes. His performance has led to uncertainty about his future with the Premier League side.

Possible Next Steps

Carlos Miguel, who was once linked with Palmeiras and Cruzeiro, may still have opportunities to remain in Europe albeit likely with smaller clubs. Despite his limited experience, the 1.96m goalkeeper is under contract with Nottingham Forest until 2028 and is currently valued at around €4 million (R$25 million).

While his next destination remains unknown, a return to Brazil has not been ruled out, particularly as several Série A clubs continue to monitor the goalkeeper market heading into the second half of the season.
