Spanish shot-stopper signals approval for transfer; negotiations set to advance during Joan Gamper Trophy

Barcelona is preparing for another departure in the summer transfer window, with goalkeeper Iñaki Peña on the verge of leaving the club. The 25-year-old has grown frustrated over his lack of playing time under coach Hansi Flick and has reportedly approved a potential move to Serie A newcomers Como, managed by former Spain international Cesc Fàbregas.

The Catalan club has already generated around €23 million in player sales this window and remains determined to continue reshaping the squad. Sporting director Deco has been working intensively behind the scenes, even skipping the team’s preseason tour to handle negotiations. His recent efforts facilitated Iñigo Martínez’s transfer to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr  and Peña now appears next in line to depart.

Talks set for Joan Gamper Trophy

Como have identified Peña as a priority target and plan to use Friday’s Joan Gamper Trophy match at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys as an opportunity to meet face-to-face with Barcelona officials. According to sources close to the deal, Barça are open to a permanent transfer for a fee in the region of €10 million a figure the Italian club is prepared to discuss.

Player already convinced

Journalist Ferran Martínez reports that Peña has already given his approval to join Como, seeing the move as a chance to become a first-choice goalkeeper. While his representatives are still sounding out other clubs  believing the player could attract interest from more high-profile sides the path to Como appears clear if contract terms can be agreed.

Peña’s main request is straightforward: a guaranteed starting role under Fàbregas. The Spaniard, who is under contract with Barcelona until 2026, has spent the bulk of his professional career as Marc-André ter Stegen’s understudy, making sporadic appearances in domestic and European competitions. With the Euros behind him and a new season approaching, Peña is determined to secure regular minutes in a competitive league.

If the transfer goes through, it would mark the latest step in Como’s ambitious project since their promotion to Serie A, as the club seeks to blend experienced internationals with promising talents in a bid to consolidate their top-flight status.
