Antonio Conte presses and Napoli approaches Rasmus Højlund as Lukaku’s replacement

Napoli are moving quickly to secure a replacement for the injured Romelu Lukaku, with talks advancing for Manchester United striker Rasmus Højlund on a loan deal with a purchase option, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Lukaku blow forces urgent action

Antonio Conte, who guided Napoli to the Serie A title last season, was dealt a major setback after Lukaku scorer of 14 goals last campaign suffered an injury expected to sideline him for three to four months. With the club facing the dual challenge of defending their domestic crown and competing in the Champions League, Conte pressed the board for immediate reinforcements.

Højlund close to exit after losing place at United

At Manchester United, Højlund has fallen down the pecking order following the arrival of Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig. Although the Danish forward initially wanted to fight for his spot at Old Trafford, interest from top European clubs has shifted his stance. Napoli now look set to capitalize.

Lucca leads attack for now

In their Serie A opener, Napoli turned to Lorenzo Lucca, a new signing from Udinese who scored 14 goals last season. While the 24-year-old showed promise, Conte has been clear about his need for another proven option up front.
