Thiago Silva’s Son, Isago, Signs First Contract with Chelsea

16-year-old defender joins Blues’ U-18 team with scholarship deal
Chelsea Football Club has officially confirmed the signing of a scholarship contract with Isago da Silva, son of former Blues star Thiago Silva. The 16-year-old defender, who joined the club’s academy as an under-13, is now eligible to represent the U-18 team and train full-time at Cobham, Chelsea’s training ground.
The deal also paves the way for Isago’s first professional contract, which will come into effect when he turns 17, in accordance with Football Association (FA) regulations.
A Versatile and Intelligent Defender
According to Chelsea’s official statement, Isago is described as a tactically intelligent and versatile player, capable of playing both as a centre-back and left-back. His development has been closely monitored by the academy staff, with the club praising his progression and on-field maturity.
Isago made his U-18 debut in February, helping the team secure a 3–1 win over Leicester City. The club also highlighted his role in the U-15 team’s Floodlit Cup victory and his contributions to the U-16 side last season.
“Isago joined Chelsea in his under-13 year and has developed into a tactically intelligent and versatile defender,” the club noted in an official statement.
Family Legacy Continues at Stamford Bridge
Thiago Silva, who now plays for Fluminense in Brazil, celebrated the news alongside his wife with heartfelt posts on social media. The Brazilian defender, who won major titles with Chelsea including the Champions League and Premier League, expressed pride in seeing his son take the first steps in his own professional journey.
Isago’s signing comes as part of Chelsea’s ongoing commitment to developing young talent through its academy, with the club investing heavily in youth players with long-term potential.
