Real Madrid decides to renew with Dani Carvajal due to lack of talented full-backs on the market

Real Madrid have decided to pursue a contract renewal with veteran right-back Dani Carvajal, citing a lack of elite alternatives on the transfer market and his vital role in mentoring future talents.

Carvajal to Stay as Madrid Weighs Market Options

According to a report from Radio Cadena COPE, club president Florentino Pérez is personally overseeing the decision to extend Carvajal’s contract beyond 2026. The move comes as Real Madrid continue to face a thin market for top-quality right-backs this summer.

Head coach Xabi Alonso is expected to rotate between Trent Alexander-Arnold and Carvajal, with the English international as the projected starter and Carvajal providing veteran backup in key moments.

Leadership Role for Carvajal in Youth Development

Beyond his on-pitch contribution, Carvajal’s experience and deep-rooted identity with the club are seen as essential to Real Madrid’s long-term plan, particularly in the development of Jesús Fortea, an 18-year-old right-back from the club’s youth system.

The coaching staff values Carvajal not only as a player, but as a mentor for younger talents who are being groomed to eventually succeed him in the first team.

Jesús Fortea: Real Madrid’s Next Right-Back?

Jesús Fortea, Castilla’s promising number 41, has impressed internally with strong performances in the youth ranks. Last season, he played 20 matches, contributed directly to six goals, and logged 1,535 minutes across competitions.

Although he has yet to debut with the senior squad, his progression under Xabi Alonso is being closely monitored. The new head coach has already shown trust in youth, recently giving opportunities to players like Gonzalo García.

Long-Term Strategy Over Quick Fixes

Real Madrid’s approach signals a long-term investment strategy over immediate big-money signings. The club believes that pairing a proven veteran like Carvajal with the next generation will provide both continuity and structure, helping Jesús Fortea transition seamlessly into top-level football.

Carvajal, 32, has made over 400 appearances for Los Blancos and is one of the few remaining players who fully embody the values of the club’s modern golden era.
