Napoli eyes Federico Chiesa after Darwin Núñez deal fails

Italian giants shift focus to Juventus winger as attacking reinforcements remain top priority

Napoli has turned its attention to Federico Chiesa after failing to secure Darwin Núñez from Liverpool. The Serie A side had submitted an offer for the Uruguayan striker but withdrew after Liverpool demanded a fee deemed excessive by the Italian club.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli has now made Chiesa its primary transfer target and is preparing to accelerate negotiations with Juventus in the coming days.

Liverpool’s €15M demands shelve Núñez pursuit

Napoli made a formal approach for Núñez but was met with strong resistance from Liverpool. The Premier League club reportedly demanded a fee exceeding €15 million, a figure that Napoli considered disproportionate given their transfer budget and priorities this summer.

With the deal no longer viable, Napoli’s directors have decided to pivot to more affordable and realistic targets, starting with Chiesa.

Chiesa deal seen as “realistic and strategic”

Napoli believes Chiesa could rediscover his best form under new management and view him as a low-risk, high-reward signing. The club has already made initial contact with the player’s representatives and is confident that Juventus will be open to negotiating.

While no official bid has been submitted yet, insiders believe Napoli is ready to invest significantly to bring the Italy international to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona this summer.

Jack Grealish also on the radar

In addition to Chiesa, Napoli is reportedly exploring a potential move for Jack Grealish, who is no longer in Manchester City’s plans. The English winger is training separately from the City squad and is available for transfer, though no formal discussions have taken place yet.

Napoli continues to prioritize attacking reinforcements as the club looks to rebuild under its new technical leadership following a turbulent 2024 campaign.
