Lewandowski avoids talking about staying at Barcelona

Veteran striker Robert Lewandowski has refused to be drawn on his long-term future at Barcelona, stating he is focused solely on the current season amid growing speculation about his next steps.
Speaking to Marca during Barcelona’s pre-season tour in Asia, the 36-year-old was asked whether this could be his final campaign with the Catalan club. “I don’t know if this will be my last year. I’m calm. What matters is what I can do this season,” said the Polish forward, who remains under contract until 2026.
Focused on Present, Not Renewal
While Barcelona navigates logistical challenges including the cancellation of a planned match in Japan the team is preparing for its La Liga opener in August, with Lewandowski expected to lead the line under new manager Hansi Flick.
Despite his age, Lewandowski is considered a crucial figure in a squad undergoing transition. However, his decision to sidestep discussions about a contract renewal has fueled speculation that this could be his final season in Spain.
Praise for Rashford and Lamine Yamal
The former Bayern Munich star was full of praise for new loan arrival Marcus Rashford, who joined Barcelona from Manchester United this summer. Rashford will wear the number 14 shirt and has a purchase option included in his deal.
“I remember when we played United, and Rashford was in great form. He can play in multiple positions, and that will be important for us,” said Lewandowski, noting the Englishman’s versatility in attack.
He also singled out Lamine Yamal, one of Barça’s brightest homegrown prospects, for his maturity and mentality at just 17. “Despite his age, he’s already showing a different mentality. He can play even better this season. He’s a good player and a great kid,” he added.
Leadership Role Amid Transition
Barcelona continues to lean on Lewandowski’s experience and leadership as it enters another year of rebuilding. The club will look to improve on last season’s performance, with La Liga, the Champions League, and domestic cups all in their sights.
While his long-term future remains uncertain, for now, Lewandowski is focused on the task at hand: delivering results in what could be a defining season for both him and the club.
