Héctor Fort could be traded to Barcelona for Jules Koundé and Eric García

La Masia graduate could be involved in a deal to solidify right-back options

Barcelona are considering loaning out Héctor Fort during the summer transfer window, as manager Hansi Flick restructures the club’s defensive lineup for the 2025/26 season. According to journalist Javi Miguel, the 18-year-old right-back may be part of a broader plan that prioritizes Jules Koundé and Eric García in the right-back hierarchy.

Although Fort had his most active senior season yet, featuring in 21 matches and logging over 700 minutes without registering goals or assists, he may be sent out on loan to gain first-team experience and continue his development.

Koundé and García ahead in pecking order

Jules Koundé, a regular starter last season, remains Flick’s first-choice at right-back, with Eric García emerging as the preferred backup due to his versatility. This scenario limits Fort’s short-term opportunities at the Camp Nou.

While the club is not actively seeking to sell the young defender, Barcelona’s board would not oppose a suitable loan deal that guarantees Fort more consistent minutes at a competitive level.

Fort impressed under Flick after debuting with Xavi

Fort initially broke into the first team under Xavi Hernández, but it was under Flick’s leadership that he earned more regular minutes, playing alongside fellow academy products Marc Casadó, Gerard Martín, and Pau Cubarsí.

Despite a lack of attacking statistics, Fort’s reliability in defense and positional intelligence have earned praise internally. He has worn the number 32 shirt, and his progress has made him a candidate for a structured development loan.

Potential loan similar to Marc Bernal’s situation

Barcelona may adopt a similar strategy to that of Marc Bernal, another La Masia talent currently linked with a move to AS Roma. Club president Joan Laporta is reportedly engaged in negotiations to send Bernal to Italy, a decision that reflects the board’s desire to develop young talent through external opportunities.
