Barcelona sporting director Deco has reportedly finalized a high-stakes transfer strategy for the 2026 season, prioritizing a world-class striker and a left-footed center-back.
According to Sport, the Catalan giants are prepared to sanction a combined investment exceeding €150 million, provided they can successfully offload high earners to comply with La Liga’s stringent financial regulations. Head coach Hansi Flick has already green-lit the targets as he looks to solidify Barça’s dominance in Spain and Europe.
The Search for Lewandowski’s Successor
With Robert Lewandowski’s future increasingly uncertain, the club is looking for a long-term heir. The Pole’s wife recently hinted to Onet Plejada that this could be his final season at the Camp Nou. While Barça might offer him a reduced role and salary, the board is already eyeing Atletico Madrid’s Julián Álvarez.
The 26-year-old Argentine, valued at €100 million, is seen as the perfect fit for Flick’s high-pressing system. However, prying him away from a rival like Atletico where he is under contract until 2030 will be a monumental task.
Strengthening the Backline with Bastoni
On the defensive front, Flick has requested a left-footed specialist to provide better balance in build-up play. Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni is the primary target.
Standing at 1.90m, the Italian international is considered one of the best ball-playing defenders in the world. While his market value sits around €80 million, Inter are expected to fight to keep their star man, whose current deal runs until 2028.
Balancing the Books: The “Exit” Strategy
To fund these ambitious moves, Barcelona must act aggressively in the departure lounge. Lewandowski’s potential exit alone would shave €26 million off the annual wage bill, according to Capology. Other fringe players with high salaries will also be placed on the market to ensure the club stays within FFP (Financial Fair Play) limits.
