Flamengo offers R$97.92 million to Fiorentina for Lucas Beltrán, Argentine champion with River in 2023

Fiorentina forward remains hesitant over South American return as Flamengo intensifies transfer efforts
Flamengo has made a formal offer of R$97.92 million (€15 million) to Fiorentina in an attempt to sign Lucas Beltrán, the Argentine striker who rose to prominence with River Plate and is currently playing in Serie A. The 24-year-old is seen as a key reinforcement target by the Brazilian side as they aim to strengthen their attack ahead of a demanding calendar.
Beltrán at the Center of Flamengo’s Reinforcement Plans
According to club sources, Flamengo’s board has prioritized the signing of an agile striker who can provide mobility and complement the team’s tactical structure under new head coach Filipe Luís. Beltrán fits the desired profile and has been under observation since his successful spell with River Plate, where he became Argentine champion in 2023.
Although he scored six goals in 51 appearances for Fiorentina last season, Flamengo believes the Argentine can rediscover his form in Brazilian football.
Transfer Faces Resistance from the Player
Despite the offer already being on the table, negotiations have hit a roadblock. Club officials are reportedly pessimistic about completing the deal, as Beltrán has shown reluctance to return to South America at this stage of his career. The forward is believed to be focused on continuing his development in European football.
Flamengo Eyes Competition Up Front
Currently, Flamengo has Pedro and Juninho as center-forward options, but the club is keen to add depth and internal competition to the position. With a congested fixture list ahead, Flamengo’s technical committee sees the striker role as one of the few gaps remaining in an otherwise well-reinforced squad.
The club recently secured the signings of Saúl, Emerson Royal, and Samuel Lino, yet Filipe Luís still wants a forward with both box presence and tactical versatility.
Castellanos Also Considered but Cost Remains a Barrier
Another name on Flamengo’s radar is Taty Castellanos, but the club has stalled on that front due to the high financial demands associated with the striker’s transfer.
The board continues to explore alternatives in the market, maintaining a balance between squad quality and financial responsibility. While Beltrán remains the top priority, Flamengo is expected to consider other options should negotiations collapse.
